Aos 17 anos, o gaúcho Derick Goulart subiu duas vezes no topo do pódio dos Jogos da Juventude, em Ribeirão Preto, ao vencer a competição individual geral (89.800) e por equipes da ginástica artística (176.150). A conquista do jovem, que começou no esporte aos quatro anos, vai além das medalhas de ouro. Ele cresceu no Passo das Pedras, bairro na periferia de Porto Alegre, onde é conhecido como “o cara do mortal”. A região sofre com elevados índices de criminalidade, devido ao tráfico de drogas.
A determinação de Derick em seguir a carreira de atleta de alto rendimento recebeu o apoio de Leonardo Finco, ex-coordenador técnico da seleção brasileira masculina, que acompanha o desenvolvimento do ginasta desde que ele tinha oito anos, quando ingressou no Grêmio Náutico União. Os treinos acontecem seis vezes por semana, de segunda a sábado, por quatro horas.
