O novo alvo do presidente Donald Trump para restringir ainda mais a imigração legal é o visto L-1. Trump considera um programa para limitar esse tipo de visto, que permite a empresas multinacionais transferir funcionários importantes de escritórios no exterior para os Estados Unidos.
Um item da agenda regulatória para vistos L-1 propõe "revisar a definição de conhecimento especializado, esclarecer a definição de emprego e relação empregador-empregado, e garantir que os empregadores paguem salários apropriados aos portadores de visto L-1". Não há nada no estatuto de imigração sobre um requisito salarial para os portadores de visto L-1.
O visto L-1 é um visto não imigrante (ou seja, temporário) que permite que empresas multinacionais tragam funcionários temporariamente para os Estados Unidos. A eliminação do programa de vistos L-1 prejudicaria o crescimento de empregos e salários nos Estados Unidos, tornando muito mais difícil expandir os negócios aqui.
